JAMILA Lunkuse, the Rwenzori/USPA sports personality for the month of April, has called upon the government to give more support to sportsmen, as this is the only way sports can be able to develop in the country.

In a message relayed by her father Yusuf Nsibambi, as Lunkuse is currently in Plymouth, UK where she is attending a scholarship in both education and swimming, the Olympian recalled an embarrassing incident when Dorcus Inzikuru raced around to buy new shoes and how she later had to nurse her after she was spiked at the London 2012 Olympic Games adding that ‘it was appaling’.

“She says that such situations demoralise the athletes’ performance. They need more care and help from the government,” said her father at the monthly crowning dinner that took place at Lugogo Tennis Club on Thursday evening.

Lunkuse was crowned for her recent medal haul which saw her win 7 gold medals and one silver medal at the CANA Zone 3 and 4 Swimming Championship in Zambia.

Lunkuse was in sensational form in April at the CANA Zone 3 and 4 Swimming Championship in Zambia.

Lunkuse won gold in the 50m breaststroke, butterfly and free style. She also picked gold from the 100m breast and freestyle on top of the 200m freestyle and Individual Medley events collecting a total of eight medals.

“She has qualified for the World Championships and her target is to see that she makes it to the finals at the world championships,” said Nsibambi who was at the function with Lunkuse’s siblings Hannah and Imran Nsibambi.

Nsibambi also thanked the journalists for helping to motivate sportsmen, adding that they will also have a big bearing on Lunkuse’s future.

“She is proud of the award and she is looking forward to performing better,” he added.
