In another set of promotions coming on the heels of those announced on Friday, President Yoweri Museveni has promoted the Inspector General of Police to a higher rank.

The president, who is also the Commander in Chief of the UPDF, raised Kale Kayihura from the rank of Lt. General to a full General.

In the same announcement, Brig Garvas Mugenyi, formerly Commander of Armoured Brigade, has been transferred and appointed Commander Air Defence Division.

This was in a press release signed by UPDF and Defence Spokesperson Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda on Saturday.

Col Joseph Ssemwanga, who was Commandant Armoured Warfare Training School, has been lifted to Brigadier and appointed Commander Armoured Brigade, indicated the statement.

Another promotion was for Col Augustine Kyazze, to Brigadier, who also remains Deputy Chief of Logistics and Engineering In-charge of Engineering.

More promotions

Col Francis Chemongesi, previously Armoured Brigade Operations Officer, is also now a Brigadier and appointed Commandant Armoured Warfare Training School.

Col Deus Sande, the former Chief Instructor Armoured Warfare Training School, has been promoted to Brigadier and attached to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Also, Col Charles Lutaya, who was the Acting Chief of Staff Air force before, goes for Senior Air Staff and Command Course in the USA.

Lt Col James Birungi is promoted to Colonel and appointed Acting Chief of Staff Air force.

“We congratulate the officers upon these well-deserved promotions and wish them success in their assignments,” read the release.

This is the second announcement in the same week after the President reshuffled his ministers and army bosses on Friday, bringing new faces into the administration of the UPDF.

Prominent in the Friday reshuffle was the shifting of hitherto Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Aronda Nyakairima to Internal affairs Minister.

The other was the shifting of Katumba Wamala from Commander of Land Forces at Lt. General rank to full General and appointed Chief of Defence Forces.
