Tanzanian Premier League champions Azam FC is expected to arrive on Saturday for a ten-day training camp in Kampala.

They are lined up to play friendly matches against Ugandan champions KCCA FC, local league table leaders Vipers FC and Sports Club Villa next week.

Azam will play KCCA FC at Lugogo on December 16 then Vipers FC at Nakivubo three days later. They are expected to conclude their tour with another game against Sports Club Villa the following day.

The club’s advance team led by their Ugandan assistant coach George Nsimbe arrived in Kampala on Friday to prepare accommodation and other amenities for the team. Nsimbe confirmed that a contingent of 35 Azam FC players, officials and television crew will arrive on Saturday.

“These (Ugandan) clubs were expected to travel to Tanzania but they could not make it so we (Azam FC) decided to come down here,” Nsimbe said.

“We have a crucial match against Yanga FC back in Tanzania (December 28) and we hope these friendly matches will boost our preparations for it,” he added.

The club's Chief Executive Officer, Saad Kawemba, said that the visit is also meant to prepare the team for the CAF Champions League campaign next year.

The friendlies local coordinator and Vipers FC chairman Tadius Kitandwe said that Azam and UBC TV are negotiating to have the matches televised live.

Kitandwe said that besides the tour, Azam television which funds the club under their mother company Bakhresa Group will further negotiations for a possibility to inject $600000(sh1.7b) in the Uganda Premier League clubs.

UPL clubs representatives, board members, FUFA vice president Dennis Mbidde and Kitandwe are scheduled to meet officials of Azam TV today (Friday).

The meeting has come at a time many of the UPL clubs have openly come out to complain about their financial wows despite the Uganda Super League and FUFA agreement with SuperSport on their behalf.
