UGANDA Cranes striker Brian Umony has promised to help his new club Azam FC of Tanzania achieve its targets despite the pressure on him to perform.

In his first interview since joining the team, Umony acknowledged that although playing in Tanzania for the first time is challenging him, his ambitions are to work hard as the club take their first shot at continental scene.

“There is always pressure to perform for a player playing in a foreign country. I am quite aware of the expectations the management, fans and coaches have of me and I am ready to work hard to help the team achieve its goals,” Umony, who joined the club at an annual fee of sh62m after a brilliant CECAFA display last month said.

“Azam are a great side and they are ambitious as well. Working along their principles is great for a player and I am certain it will improve me a lot,” he added.

“It is a challenge playing in Tanzania because it is my very first time. Of course with the weather change and different set of players, but I am coping very well,” he noted.

Azam FC will represent Tanzania in the CAF Confederations Cup for the very first time in its history. 

For Umony, who shouldered KCCA’s task at the CAF Champions League before he turned professional in 2009, it should be another opportunity to build a career.

Umony has played in USA, South Africa and Vietnam.
