KAMPALA – A 28-year-old man, Abdul Ibinga, whose penis was cut off by his estranged wife, had hoped to have seven children, until recently when he went through the agonizing ordeal.

For now he can only stick to the three offspring that he already has with the woman he says brought unto him that pain.

Speaking to New Vision from his hospital bed at Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Ibinga said he was attacked by his wife, Madinah Namuwaya, while he was asleep in their marital bed.

This was at their home in Irungu village in Kamuli district last month.

Health workers at Mulago are trying to re-attach the genitals which were left hanging by the skin.  He is being attended to by his second wife, Lydia Tibinto.

From Ibinga’s own account of the events that led to his vitals being snipped off, it appears it was because of a wife – a second wife at that.

The peasant farmer said that his wife Namuwaya was lazy and that whenever he asked her to till the land, she would give excuses.

So when he could have no more of her lethargic tendencies, he decided to get himself a second wife (Tibinto) – one who, as he put it, “could dig”.

Degree of damage

Prior to getting another woman for a wife, Ibinga had lived with Namuwaya for eight years.

“Namuwaya began mistreating me when she learnt that I had got a second wife,” he said.

“On the fateful day, I went back home after work in the evening. Namuwaya welcomed me and served me dinner. After eating, I began dozing. So, I decided to go to bed.

“Later at around midnight, I felt a lot of pain in my private parts, and then I saw blood oozing out of my genitals. On checking, I discovered they were hanging by the skin,” Ibinga narrated.

He said he called his wife to no avail, before sounding an alarm which attracted neighbours, who rushed him to hospital.

Dr. Charles Kasozi of Mulago Hospital says the success of the surgery on Ibinga’s genitals will depend on the degree of damage.

Meanwhile, Namuwaya was reportedly arrested and is said to be on remand at Kamuli Prison.
