Born in a very poor family in the remote village of Kitanda, Bwanswa sub-county in Kibale district, William Lubega had to start fending for himself at an early age.

It took a clan to pay his school fees, yet he still had to brew mwenge bigere, a local brew and vending groundnuts to raise money for his upkeep.

However, today, Lubega is not only a distinguished professor of Molecular Biology at Makerere University, but also an accomplished businessman.

The brain behind Pride Travellers Hotel, a 70-room hotel structure that dominates the skyline of Mubende town, he also owns a fleet of taxis and lorries, real estate properties and is one of Kibale’s biggest farmers.
