The State Minister for Youth and Children affairs Ronald Kibuule, has urged the youth to take advantage of the government programs for the youth in order to create self employment for their own development.

Kibuule  made the call while speaking as chief guest at the  Sheema Youth conference for Enterprise and youth economy in relation to the new government program of Youth Livelihood Fund (YLF) held at the Sheema district headquarters on Friday.

“The youth make the majority percentage population in Uganda and there are only 350,000 government jobs, which is very impossible to employ every one. So the government has decided to fund youth projects in order to enhance their personal income, which you (youth) must take advantage of,” Kibuule said.

The minister, who had to fly to Sheema in a UPDF Chopper ordered for him by president Museveni, in order to catch up with the events after delaying in a meeting in Kampala, said there is a lot of unemployment among the youth because they are the majority and do not mind about self employment.

Kibuule told the youth to resist selfish politicians who lure them into wasting time and lives in riots, and only take advantage of the Youth Livelihood Fund (YLF), newly established by the government to help the youth out of poverty.

“Investors who give you jobs, will not invest in Uganda if there are riots and the biggest losers following that is you the youth. So you must get away with the temptation of hungry politicians who want to use you,” He said.

Kibuule urged the youth to profitably use the money that will be given to them under this YLF program and also start a Sheema District Youth SACCO which will enable them get more funding from the government.

The Sheema woman MP, who organized the event, promised government support for the youth and said the Youth SACCO will be formed immediately.

Other speakers of the day including Mbarara RDC Nickson Kabuye and his Kabalore counterpart Stephen Asiimwe and the technical officer from the Ministry of Gender Happy James Tumwebaze, all urged the youth on self enterprise.

The Youth Livelihood Fund (YLF) is a newly established government funding program for the youth, replacing the mishandled Youth Fund and the YES programs.

The Youth will be funded from their respective districts and sub counties in order to start up self enterprising projects and Sheema District has been given sh229.7m.
