After his recent Tusker Malt Uganda Open win ‘yellow boy’ Deo Akope is fired up to even do better in a series of international tournaments starting with the KCB series final in Mombasa, due September 23-26.

Akope who bagged sh23m from the Tusker Malt Uganda Open will tackle the Mombasa tournament with four other Ugandans who include Denis Anguyo, Vincent Byamukama, Fred Wanzala and Opio Onito.

In March, Akope and Anguyo missed the cut at the Kenya open but performed very well in the just concluded Uganda Open finishing first and third respectively.

In Kenya, the MTN sponsored Akope who was contesting in the lucrative event for the third time and Anguyo who was making a maiden appearance at the annual tournament found themselves off the mark after two days of action at the Karen Golf Club.

Akope believes travelling in a group will this time boost the players’ confidence during the Mombasa event.

From Mombasa Akope will travel to Dubai for the Abu Dhabi Classic before tackling the Ras Alkaimer Classic on October 19-21. He will then compete in the American Express Dirab Championship (October 26-29) for a share of $50,000 (sh132m) in each of the tour events.

“I have to make the cut this time, last year I made a few mistakes that made me miss the cut and I should do better this time,” Akope said.

Last year, he competed in the American Express Dirab Championship before heading to Al Badia Golf Club for the Maktoum Dubai Open. He wound up the tour with the Ras Al Khaumah Classic but failed to earn any money from any of the events.
