Kampala MP Mohammed Nsereko failed to appear in court, due to sickness, for the hearing of a case in which he is accused of assaulting a police officer.

Nsereko, who was admitted at Case Medical Center, was discharged on Wednesday but could not make it to court.

His lawyers say the MP fell sick from the manner in which he was handled during his arrest.

The lawyers led by Yunusu Kasirivu stated that Nsereko suffered severe tension, sinuses and maltreatment.

Godfrey Musobya, the police officer whom Nsereko allegedly assaulted, presented two other witnesses after his former witness failed to answer some of the questions from the defense lawyers.

The magistrate then halted the trial prematurely when OC Kampala Metropolitan (north) Sam Omala could not answer some questions.

But Buganda road court grade one magistrate, Julius Borore did not hear the new witness and adjourned the case to October 22 when Nsereko appears in court.

Borore also extended Nsereko’s bail.

Prosecution alleges that on September 17 while at his home in Old Kampala, Nsereko assaulted police officer Musobya, causing him grievous harm.

The police officer who is attached to the Crime Intelligence allegedly lost two teeth during the attack.

Nsereko however has since the incident denied any role in the attack.
