Julie Mutesasira aka Juliet Nalujja is a celebrated Ugandan gospel musician. In that category of music, she knows what success tastes like, after winning awards season after season. Songs like Ku List ya Mukama, Ninze and Ekinyumira only make a part of a larger heap of music she has done. In fact, she is delving into love songs as well, and lately, she has been shooting a video for her latest love song Ndayira (literally, I swear). New Vision’s Glorias Musiime met her behind the scenes.

You are really looking fine, who is behind your makeup Julie?
No one, I just did it myself because I do not like spending much on saloon since it requires a lot of money. I buy make-up and do it as long as I know the colors of the dress.
The song you are shooting, tell me more
With Ndayira, I am giving assurance to him – that if he loves me, I swear he will never regret. For the inspiration, I just thought of people in love who swear and make oath, so I decided to come up with the song.

I know you are married, were you promising someone?
[Laughs] Not really but to some extend it’s true.
You being a gospel artiste, how come there is no God in this song?
Glorias, please! Anyway as I have earlier told you, this is for the people in love.

You are shooting in Kasubi and next to Rubaga, why did you choose these places?
It is the video director who chose these locations, not me. He thought they would work well for the song. He is Aiden. I always use him because he is a good guy. He did the video of Ninze and it came out well.
You are only two characters in this video . . .
Yeah. I never wanted to feature many. It’s a love song so I wanted a guy – a couple situation. The guy I chose is a model and handsome at that! No-one would want to use an ugly person in their video, right?

And why this type of dress?
It has all the colors I wanted and it brings out my figure. Besides I designed it myself. My fans will definitely love the video first, and then the message. It’s a good song.
