Uganda players depart Thursday for Olympiad

Uganda’s National Chess team comprising of ten players including five women and five men have all secured Norwegian visas and return tickets to Norway.

Uganda’s National Chess team comprising of ten players including five women and five men have all secured Norwegian visas and return tickets to Norway.

The team will feature in the World Chess Olympiad to be held in Tromso, Norway from August 1 to 15, 2014. The team will depart for Tromso aboard Emirates via Dubai and Stockholm on Thursday.

The star-studded men’s team comprises of International Master Elijah Emojong, FIDE Master Harold Wanyama, Candidate Master Patrick Kawuma, Arthur Ssegwanyi and Mathias Ssonko.

The ladies are Grace Kigeni, Ivy Amoko, Goretti Angolikin, Phiona Mutesi and Christine Namaganda. Uganda will also have two arbiters in International Arbiter Stephen Kisuze and FIDE Arbiter Christopher Turyahabwe arbitrating at the Tromso Olympiad.

The first time a Ugandan arbitrated at the World Olympiad was at the last event in Istanbul, Turkey when Kisuze did the country proud with an astounding display
