Vipers can mean venomous (snakes) with a pair of deadly fangs each or treacherous people. But that is Bunamwaya’s new name – Vipers Sports Club.

The Buikwe based football team is expected to complete their transformation today when they unveil Nigerian coach Ambrose Duru Chukuma at their first preseason training at Kitende in Wakiso district.

After their 43-year history as a village team that saw them leap to top flight football in 2005, Bunamwaya SC is yawning for nationwide appeal and thus renamed.

The club director Lawrence Mulindwa said that the rebranding is also meant to re-energise it for a more competitive approach to competition.

“I believe that a Ugandan club can emerge national champions, excel at the regional CECAFA competitions and proceed to win a continental championship. We are launching a new name with more seriousness,” Mulindwa said as he unveiled the club’s new logo.

The club resumes pre-season training under the little known Chukuma, who missed Vipers SC inauguration ceremony in Buikwe on Sunday due to flight delay. He finally jetted in yesterday in time for his first day of the two-year contract today.

The coach replaces Edward Golola, who has opted to coach St. Mary’s Kitende Secondary School football team owned by Mulindwa, who is also a director of the club. Vipers registered 427 new fans on Sunday.
