Effe Nalumansi, 21, economics student at UCU, Mukono

What brings you to this pageant?

At 21, I finally realised that I had never been involved in anything, apart from reading books. It’s time for me to do something outside books.

Did you face any resistance from anyone to participate?

No. My mother was excited, although she was concerned about exposing my body in swim suit. I told her that the pageant was not about indecency, but beauty and brains.

Did your sugar daddy second your decision? I am not seeing a sugar daddy.

But ‘campusers’ are known for seeing them: I can only date someone I love.

What went wrong in your last relationship? He was too protective, so I left. He would tell me what to do all the time. For example, he advised me against dancing in clubs.

Perhaps you were big-headed: No, I let people advise me, but the final decision is not up to them.

Louise Nankabala

Are you dating? I haven’t found that someone yet.

What qualities are you looking for in a man?

I want a God-fearing, responsible, caring and handsome guy.

Would you approach a guy you like?

No, I wouldn’t. My actions would speak louder than my words. It’s not a girl-thing to approach a guy; I would lose my respect as a lady.

Would you manipulate a guy with your looks to get what you want?

I consider that very cheap. I prefer working for something.

How will you handle the attention from men after the contest?
