MUCH as Uganda is a music-loving country, we were yet to experience the love Indians have for musical concerts and this love they did prove to have when their own boy came down to Uganda, we realized just how much the men and women from Asian enjoy the music too.
Sree Ram Chandra, the Indian idol 5 winner who arrived in the country on Friday afternoon with his whole troupe pulled a crowd of more than 5,000 Indians at Multipurpose hall at UMA, Lugogo.
The Indian idol is Asia’s biggest music episode with a following of over 20 million people within India and Ram was voted by over 5 million people! it beats American idol when it comes to the numbers of followers.
The show, dubbed ‘Indian Musical Nite’ attracted a substantial number of Indian community in Uganda as some of the revellers came from as far as Mbarara, Jinja, Iganga, Mbale, Gulu among other parts of the country just to see their own boy do his thing.
Indeed, the much-hyped show was well organized with splendid sound and stage lighting with two giant screens just to ensure everyone follows whatever was taking place.
In an exclusive interview with the singer on Friday evening he said that; “This is my first time in Uganda and I expect a huge crowd and I am going to give my best because that is what I do best,”; and it was just that!
The 26-year old Ram is indeed a popular artiste because the crowd sung along with him almost all his songs including those on his yet-to-be- released 2012 album. The mellow-voiced singer said that he will be coming back to the country to do collaboration projects with Ugandan artistes.
He put up a splendid four-hour live performance with his troupe and his two other singers of his troupe in Ram and Shuchita Vyas. This is his second show in Africa with the first one in Tanzania last year in November.
Among the notables who attended the show were; the former or rather the current Member of Parliant for Rubaga North Singh katongole and his wife, India’ high commissioner H.E S.N. Ray, among others.
The event was organized by Andhra Cultural Associatio Uganda (ACAU) and sponsored by several corporate companies who included among others Airtel, Crane Bank, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Phoenix Assurance group, Alam group, lifeline, and balaji group.
ACAU donated Shs10m to Karamoja region and was received by the chief guest Hon. Barbra Nekesa Oundo, the state minister for Karamoja region. The show ended at around 1am when more and more revellers were just arriving.
