MASAKA LC football club shocked the reigning champions URA with a convincing 2-0 defeat in the Uganda Super League but Coach Kefa Kisala has said that it was just the tip of the iceberg as the league takes its final bend.

His plan is to ensure that the now fourth on the Uganda Super League table finish the season that concludes in the next two months within the top five teams. But he refused to predict the winner of the league this season.

Mustafa Kasolo’s first minute goal disoriented URA and Rashid Kyambadde added the second just before first half to confirm Alex Isabirye’s wows in both CAF Champions League and the Uganda Super League.

But Kisala said that it was his superior tactics that left URA play like they were in an unfamiliar ground. URA first played home games at the Masaka Recreational grounds as Lyantonde in 2002.

“I had taken time to study Revenue (URA FC) and I knew they only had big name players on paper. I had no doubt that if I talked to the club (Masaka) management to motivate the players before the match, we would beat them. That is what I did,” Kisala revealed after their victory on Saturday.

He said that Masaka managed to mobilise about sh2m from the local politicians including the vice president Edward Sekandi to motivate his players.

Kisala had earlier warned that they would not fear any team at the recreational grounds and URA’s defeat that followed on the heels of an earlier one with the same margin to Djoliba AC in the CAF Champions League has hit them hard.

But he dismissed Kisala’s comments about the defeat as lies saying that his side was just unlucky because they managed to contain Masaka LC, who utilized their few chances and scored the goals.

He added that the reason URA lost had to play their third choice goalkeeper Frank Oringa for the first time since he crossed from KCC last year.

Other than deny the champions the return to the top of the table URA coach Alex Isabirye believes there could be much to the back to back losses and he has called an impromptu meeting with his players in a bid to diagnose the anomaly.
