SOCCER - Bunamwaya striker Tony Odur has said that he wants to return to Express next season. Odur, who scored the opening goal in the side’s 4-0 victory over Victors at Kakindu on Thursday, said that officials of the two Uganda Super League teams had agreed on a fee and that the deal meant to have gone through before the current campaign started was delayed until next season. Odur crossed to Bunamwaya from Express two years ago.

Makerere enter regional show

GAMES - The first edition of the East African Inter-university games has had more spice added to it with Makerere University confirming their participation. The university senior public relations officer Gilbert Kadilo, confirmed the Inter-University games champions’ entry in the regional show set for
Mbarara University of Science and Technology starting February 27.

Kayunga plot Bugerere rise
SOCCER - Kayunga District Football Association officials have hatched a plan to enable Bugerere, one of the teams under the body, return to the Uganda Super League after falling out last year. The leaders outlined the plan at the election of the association executive held on Saturday. Doctor Sazir Mayanja was voted unopposed as the district chairman. Badru Ssentongo and James Katumba and Abu Zikusooka for administration, technical matters and finance respectively.

Makubuya Cup battle on

SOCCER - Makubuya Cup holders St Jude will take on old foes Wakuluba in the opening match of the event at Kakindu stadium on January 23. FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa, also the cup sponsor, will set the event in motion. Yale secondary school and Arsenal Njeru will also be in action. The annual competition is held in memory of Makubuya, a former FUFA delegate for Jinja instrumental in the development of the game in the region.

Edgars pound Villa in friendlies

SOCCER - Edgars Youth pounded SC Villa teens in friendly games played Tuesday at Villa park. The Edgars played two games against the Jogoo juniors which they won 6-2 and 6-0 against Triple Stars Academy coached by Paul Nkata. In another game, Edgars U-15 lost 3-0 to Villa U-16. Villa will host another academy from Kiboga this weekend at MUBS, Nakawa.

Jinja organises age group event

SOCCER - Over ten teams are expected to compete in this year’s FOSA youth soccer tournament starting Thursday. The two-day event will be held at Kivubuka and Bufuula primary schools play grounds. Drawn in two age groups, the u-14s comprise PG Emerson academy, Yellow Tigers Kyabirwa, Mpumudde red stars, Wabulenga Academy and Youth with a mission Wairaka. Group B has Jinja stars, Bugembe, Kiwa, Mutai and Born to win academy. The winner will pick a trophy and a goat.

10 in Jinja west minister gala

St Jude 1 Nalufenya 1
Ten teams are competing in the first edition of the Jinja West Minister Association football meet. In the first game at Kakindu, St Jude was held 1-1 by Nalufenya on Friday. The event, being played in two groups at Kakindu and Mpumudde playground, is expected to end on January 22.
