Museveni hails church over health, education
President Yoweri Museveni has commended the church in Uganda for complementing the Government efforts in providing health and education services.

President Yoweri Museveni has commended the church in Uganda for complementing the Government efforts in providing health and education services.
He said the services were crucial to the welfare of Ugandans.
Museveni, in a speech read by Vice-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya during the golden jubilee celebrations for Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo in Pader district, hailed the Comboni Missionaries, Sisters of Mary Immaculate, Fr. Giusette Ambrosoli and others who founded the facility 50 years ago.
He also thanked Gulu Catholic Archdiocese that runs the facility, saying Kalongo hospital had made tremendous progress and contribution in providing health care to the public since its establishment in 1934 as a small dispensary.
Museveni commended the hospital staff for sustaining the facility during the insurgency in the north. He cited the example of when the school of nursing and midwifery, attached to the hospital, had to be relocated in 1987.
The President emphasised that investment in the health sector is vital to achieving development.
Museveni said although the Government was focusing on preventive health care, there was need to increase the number of medical workers.
He emphasised that midwives were important in the prevention of infant and maternal deaths and hailed the hospital for training nurses and midwives.
The President said the Government would continue to support the hospital, train and improve the remuneration of medical workers.
Museveni contributed sh10m, while Bukenya gave sh3m towards the development of the hospital.
The finance state minister, Fred Omach, said the Government would provide an X-Ray machine to the hospital in the next financial year.
The hospital employs over 300 staff and gets about sh500m from the Government annually.
