Jonath Iraka, a former student of Mbarara High school, scored aggregate 9 in eight in last year’s O’level exams. He studied under difficult circumstances right from P.1. He completed P.7 at Itojo Progressive Primary School scoring aggregate 4 in his Primary Leaving Exams. John Agaba, the headmaster of Mbarara High School, said Iraka was bright. The school realised his parents were poor, a reason they decided to pay his fees from S.2 till he finished. Agaba says the school is prepared to pay for Iraka until he completes S.6. Iraka wants to study physics, chemistry, biology at Mbarara High school.
She loves sciences

Our Lady of Good Counsel-Gayaza’s best, Maria Assumpta Nakimbugwe, who scored 12 in eight wants to become a doctor.
“Every one in my family is a teacher, so I want to make a difference in the home,†Nakimbugwe says. “My daughter has always aspired to be number one in the final exams and finally she has done it,†Joseph Mukasa, father to Nakimbugwe and a teacher, commented. She hopes to study biology, chemistry, math and French after joining Nabisunsa Girls.

Grace Rukundo said it was God who helped her to excel in the 2009 UCE examinations. Rukundo, who was a student at Kyebambe Girls Secondary School, scored aggregate 19 in eight. Rukundo said she prayed and consulted her teachers a lot and also engaged in group discussions. She wants to join Bweranganyi Girl’s School for her A’ level and study pharmacy at the university. Rukundo advises students, who want to pass examinations, to first seek God’s wisdom and read hard.
Kitende’s best wants more labs in schools

LUKY Mugarura, 17, a former student of St. Mary’s Kitende scored aggregate 11 in his best eight subjects in the just released ‘O’Levels. When he visited The New Vision with his mother, he appealed to the Government to increase apparatus in science laboratories. Mugarura said practical subjects can be best passed and studied if the students access apparatus and use them in their practicals. “Every child is different and each child develops at their own pace,†he said. Mugarura attributes his good performance to hard work and support from the school teaching staff. He wants to study civil engineering at the university and hopes to go back to St. Mary’s Kitende for A’level.
