It was the wrong flag for Tarehe Sita

EDITOR—Saturday February 6 was Tarehe Sita day, when the UPDF celebrates the founding of their predecessor, the NRA. I was struck by a cloth banner which had been put at Mulago roundabout, announcing the day and venue of the celebrations.

At the top of the banner were stripes of black, yellow and red, which were perhaps meant to represent the Uganda flag. However, from the civics I studied more than 40 years ago, I am aware that the Uganda flag is six stripes of black, yellow, red, black, yellow red.

What was on the banner resembles the German flag, except that theirs is black, red and gold in that order. I have always seen football fans carrying the same wrong flag and forgiven them, but I least expected the UPDF to make the same error.

I am worried that our national army may not be aware of what the national symbols are. I ask the Government to begin the proposed patriotism lectures with the UPDF.
