Dorrys Mutahunga won a PAM Award for best folk pop artiste in 2007 and has since become a household name at functions, especially Kinyankole kuhingira ceremonies, weddings and concerts.
Mutahunga entertained the Queen of England during her visit to Uganda in 2007. Her recent hit song, Ambassador, is one of the local FM radio and TV stations’ favourites.
Although Mutahunga stays in Mbarara, she rarely shops there. She spent sh105,000 on her hairdo, but you can part with sh40,000 for a similar style at downtown salons.
Mutahunga bought each bangle at sh15,000 from Kampala Road, however, they cost sh5,000, each, at downtown arcades in Kampala.
She bought her dress at sh350,000 from San Francisco, USA. Similar dresses are available in most suburban boutiques in Wandegeya, Ntinda and Nakawa at sh50,000 each.
Mutahunga’s earrings cost sh75,000, although you can get similar ones at sh10,000 from shops in Kampala. She bought her shoes at sh150,000 from a shop in Kampala. However, similar shoes cost sh30,000 in city arcades. The singer bought her belt from a shop in Kampala at sh60,000, but with sh10,000, one can buy a similar belt from Owino Market or Kikuubo shops. Mutahunga’s look is worth sh760,000, but you can achieve it at sh140,000; which is sh620,000 less.
