MEMBERS of the Rotary Club of Arua on Tuesday celebrated Rotary International’s 105th anniversary.

The celebrations saw the launch of a polio immunisation campaign, targeting children in the region.

Speaking at the function at Arua Hospital, the area Rotary president, Martin Gwoktho, said polio effects both the family and economy.

“I appeal to all mothers to take their children for immunisation because it prevents the disease,” he said.

West Nile is among the regions that the health ministry placed on high alert, following an outbreak of polio in Sudan.

The club’s former president, Joackim Onzimati, said they had earmarked $1,500 (about sh3m) for the campaign against the disease.

Grace Deboru of Arua Hospital said they would conduct immunisation sessions throughout the week.
