THE Cranes will begin their 2012 Nations Cup qualification campaign with build-up matches in August. The qualifiers start in September.

FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa said at a press conference yesterday that at least five matches have been lined up.

Uganda is placed with Angola, Kenya and Guinea Bissau in Group 10 of the qualifiers. A single team will advance to the finals to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Mulindwa, who used the conference to make a quarterly report, also reiterated that coach Robert ‘Bobby’ Williamson will be in charge of the team. He refuted reports linking Williamson (picture top) to another country.

“I would like to re-assure Ugandans that Bobby is still our coach and I have confidence that he will remain with us up to the 2012 finals.”

As a way of proper planning and organisation, FUFA has resolved to set up a steering committee for the campaign.

Mulindwa explained that he is still consulting before naming the committee whose duties will include drawing a strategic plan for the qualifiers.

He outlined his achievements which, besides wins for the Cranes and U-17 national side, also included several FIFA courses and the Goal Projects.

He scoffed at those claiming that his executive was misusing the project’s funds. “As much as some people don’t have trust in me, FIFA president Sepp Blatter still trusts me,” noted Mulindwa.

He revealed that more assistance was destined for Uganda because of the trust FIFA has developed in him.

“We are already designing another project. By the time I leave, we may be on the tenth Goal Project.”

Meanwhile more Ugandans have been appointed on various CECAFA committees. Dr. James Sekajugo is chairman of the medical committee, Justus Mugisha (youth, women and FUTSO), Charles Ogwel (member), and Rogers Mulindwa (media).
