Baby killed for family honour
TURKEY - Police detained an unmarried mother and six other people near Istanbul for their suspected role in the ‘honour killing’ of a 2-day-old baby girl. The baby was suffocated by her grandmother after the family decided that their 25-year-old daughter brought shame by becoming pregnant out of wedlock. Police found the body after receiving an anonymous phone call. The doctor who agreed not to register the baby’s birth in return for money was also arrested.

School teaches marriage life
JAPAN - A newly launched school in Tokyo called Infini School teaches students how to talk, walk and present themselves elegantly in a bid to capture the hearts and minds of prospective partners and their parents. The school, which opened last month, now has about 30 female students. An almost equal number of males has signed up, but those who actually turn up to class are much fewer than their female counterparts.

World gets smallest baby
GERMANY - A child, smaller than a can of coke, was born after just 25 weeks. He was so little that a tape measure laid next to his body was wider than his limbs. Doctors said he would not survive but eight months after the birth, medics have finally agreed he is strong enough to make it through. The child weighed just 275g and is the smallest baby boy ever to survive
