IN the words of both camps, there is no bad blood or competition for fans between them. Radio and Weasel and Grace Nakimera are launching their albums tonight. Radio and Weasel’s Ngeenda Maaso is at Hotel Africana, while Nakimera’s maiden concert is at the Lugogo KCC Grounds. Both start at 6:00pm.

In the Uganda, when two big artistes hold separate concerts on the same day, it is an all-out war. For one, there is competition for fans. Then there is a battle of whose concert was more successful, a determinant promoters consider for the future.

When the news broke that Nakimera and the Goodlyfe duo would hold concerts on the same day, there was the controversy of who had chosen the date first. Some say Nakimera chose it first, while others say Goodlyfe demanded the date, saying they were bigger artistes.

It is also reported that their ‘enemies’ set the date for Nakimera in a bid to disrupt Goodlyfe’s concert.

The next thing we knew, Nakimera filed a report with the Police, saying unknown persons had sent her text messages threatening to harm her if she did not reschedule her concert. The origin of the threats remains a mystery.

Two weeks later, Nakimera was allegedly burnt with dilute acid at the Smirnoff Street Jam at Club Silk. It later emerged that the liquid was an oily concoction which left a mild irritation that cleared with medication.

The assailant, Robert Sande, was arrested but denied having attacked the singer. The motive of the attacker is still unknown.

Some sources have claimed the attack was stage-managed to garner publicity ahead of Nakimera’s concert, but she denies this.

Other sources linked Nakimera’s attacks to Radio and Weasel. They vehemently deny any involvement.

Tonight’s face-off is also about leading organizers Balam Baharugate (for Nakimera) and Bobkins Kibirige (Goodlyfe Crew).

They organised the Bobi Wine-Bebe Cool showdown in August 2009.
Who is Grace Nakimera?

She came onto the local music scene in late 2006 with the hit Ani Akumanyi, with Gatimo and Paragon.

Then she disappeared, making a come-back with the run-away hit single Anfukula in 2008. The video won Best Video award at the PAM Awards in 2008.

She followed through with Kiva Kuki, which, unfortunately, was not as successful as Anfukula. But her hit Kawonawo in 2009, proved that Anfukula had not been a fluke.

By the time she released Nvawo Nawe, she was already a respected artiste in her own right. Her latest Onyambanga Mukama, released early this year, has fast climbed up the local charts.

Nakimera is married to a Nowergian photographer called Andre, whom she met at a photo shoot in 2006, when she was a model. They have one child.

Who are Radio and Weasel?
The singing duo broke onto the scene in 2008 with the club banger Nakudata, which won Song of the Year at the PAM Awards. They also won two other awards that year.

Before then, Radio (Moses Ssekibogo Nakintije) had been an obscure member of Jose Chameleone’s Leone Island.
Weasel (Douglas Mayanja) was relatively more known after collaborating with his older brother on the 2007 single Bomboclat.

After a disagreement, they left Leone Island to start their career as a duo.
They are known to be at loggerheads with Bebe Cool and Chameleone.

The duo claim the animosity is because the older artistes cannot accept that the new artistes in the industry are taking over.

They are also popular in Zambia, where they are friends with artiste General Ozzy, who collaborated with them on the hit Potential. Ozzy flew into the country on Tuesday to perform at tonight’s launch.
