Museveni promotes Odongo to General

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has promoted retired former Army chief Lt. Gen. Jeje Odongo to the rank of general.<br>Odongo, the defence state minister, was retired last month from the army and allowed to join politics.

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has promoted retired former Army chief Lt. Gen. Jeje Odongo to the rank of general.
Odongo, the defence state minister, was retired last month from the army and allowed to join politics.

According to the army spokesperson, Lt. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the President also promoted Capt. Enock Nkunda to the rank of Lt. Col and Lt. Joseph Harvey Mugerwa to Major. They were also allowed to retire from active military service.

Also retired is Brig. Nassur Ezaga Alli. Nassur was part of the Ali Bamuze’s Uganda National Rescue Front II (UNRF II) army. When Bamuze signed an agreement with the Government, Nassur became part of the army.

Born in Amuria district in the Teso sub-region, Odongo joined the army as an officer cadet in 1979.

He then joined the National Resistance Council as army representative in 1989. In 1996, he was named political commissar in the UPDF and was appointed defence state minister soon after he joined Parliament.
