Hoisting the Uganda flag is a sign of national pride

EDITOR—Last week, Tema Kafeero of Nansana wrote a letter wondering why the NRM should raise the Uganda flag whenever it holds events around the country. Kafeero seems to be naive, ignorant or plainly vitriolic against the NRM and President Yoweri Museveni.

He was incensed that the NRM lined up the national flag all the way from Kireka on Jinja road up to Mandela stadium where the party held its national conference. According to him this is abuse of a “national symbol” by the NRM.

Let me educate him and his ilk that hoisting the Uganda flag in public at any time is a patriotic obligation of national pride. He also questions why, during national celebrations the “yellow” shirts or skirts should don these venues. Again the NRM is proud to be associated with these days and causes of emancipation.

The NRM might not have fought for independence between 1952-1962 but our forefathers fought for all the future generations, and those NRM yellow colours are symbols that the NRM pays immense tribute to them by continuing to promote what they fought for.

Finally, the NRM government has always invited all political parties and leaders to those national events but they snub the invitation. Every party is free to come in their colours although some do with intent to be disruptive.
