UGANDA’S South Africa based stars Denis Onyango and Brian Umony have been released by their club SuperSport United.
Onyango, a goalkeeper with South Africa Premier League champions SuperSport, and Umony, a striker with the same club, have been released by coach Gavin Hunt.
According to the club’s website, Hunt does not exactly say why he let go of the Ugandans. All he said was that the two were not part of his plans for the 2010/11 season. Onyango and Umony could not be immediately contacted but sources in South Africa revealed that other clubs in the top league have shown interest in the Ugandans.
Onyango, 25, joined the South African giants in 2006 and thereafter helped them win three titles. He leaves the posts to South African goalkeepers Emile Baron and Jacob Mokhosi.
Umony moved to South Africa last year after sparkling on the Ugandan scene.
The Cranes forward had a memorable season in which he scored 28 goals for both club and country.
He had emerged joint-top scorer in the Super League with 20 goals and was the architect as KCC eliminated SuperSport from the Caf Champions League.
Another South African giant Mamelodi Sundown also expressed interest in Umony at the time.
The former KCC player however failed to find his form in South Africa. He started many of his matches from the bench, scoring just two league goals.
