A KAMULI-based politician, Henry Maurice Kibalya, has filed a case with the Police, accusing lands state minister Asumani Kiyingi of threatening to shoot him.

Kibalya complained that Kiyingi’s bodyguard pointed a gun at him.

He told the Kamuli Police chief, Musa Nabende, that the minister trailed his vehicle from Jinja town to his home in Namisambya- Bunandolo in Kitayunjwa sub-county.

“Kiyingi’s bodyguard confronted me, accusing me of having a loaded gun. When he pointed his gun at me, my parents called the neighbours, who came with clubs and pangas. Noticing that he was being surrounded, Kiyingi drove off,” Kibalya narrated.

Kibalya, an employee of Uganda Breweries, is eying Kiyingi’s Bugabula South parliamentary seat.

However, Kiyingi dismissed the accusations, saying they were just “wolokoso” (rumours).

“Kibalya wants to gain popularity and votes by tarnishing my name. I am the area MP and, therefore, free to move wherever I want at any hour,” he said.

Nabende said Kiyingi faces two counts of criminal trespass and threatening violence, adding that the minister will be summoned after investigations are completed.
