BULIISA MP Stephen Biraahwa Mukitale has been summoned by Nakawa Court to answer charges of issuing four dishonoured cheques for sh10m.

On July 20 this year, Francis Kahwa sued Mukitale over the failure to pay the money, which he borrowed in 2007.

Consequently, Chief Magistrate Deo Ssejjemba ordered Mukitale to file his defence within 15 days.

Mukitale issued the cheques, all from Centenary Bank, to Kahwa between November 30, 2007 and August 30, 2008.

Two of the cheques were for sh2m, while the other were for sh3m each, totalling to sh10m. Kahwa said he notified the MP about the dishonoured cheques, but he ignored him, causing him to “suffer loss and damage”.

Kahwa wants court to compel Mukitale to pay the money with a 25% interest. Mukitale said he had instructed his lawyers to file the defence.
