THE water state minister, Jennifer Namuyangu, has said her ministry has blacklisted companies that are inefficient, saying no contract will ever be awarded to them.

She said the ministry would award contracts only to honest contractors.
Namuyangu said the contracts include building water reservoirs in all sub-counties in Karamoja district.
The minister commended the army for providing security to Zhonghao Overseas Engineering construction, the Chinese company building a sh6b dam in Karamoja.

Namuyangu was speaking on Thursday during a monitoring and evaluation visit to Kobebe multi-purpose dam under construction in Rupa sub-county in Moroto district.

The Moroto resident district commissioner, Nahaman Ojwe, said the project is meant to transform the lives of the Karimojong.

“Grazing animals has been a challenge, but now with the big volume of water, conflicts over sharing water sources will reduce,” he said.

Ojwe said the dam would encourage resettlement of the residents who deserted the area in the 1960s due to insecurity.

The project manager, Yang Lin, said construction works were going on despite interruptions by heavy rains.
He said with the support of all stakeholders, work will be completed in December.
