UGANDAN drivers who have been placed down in the order of start will be out show that they are quicker than perceived at the super special stage of the Amana Banking Rally at Kilifi in Mombasa today.
Jas Mangat (Subaru N12) with an recognisable international record, will be flagged off either eighth while Ronald Ssebuguzi (Mitsubishi Evo9), Ponsiano Lwakataka and new national champion Nasser Mutebi (Subaru N4) will be flagged off 18th, 19th and 23rd respectively.
“They moved from 37th to 23rd, I am not complaining. I will attack from that position, what matters is the pace,†Mutebi said before setting off route reccing yesterday.
“It is a great opportunity to gauge myself against the Kenyan drivers.â€
Ssebuguzi, who will be navigated by Omar Mayanja, left for Mombasa yesterday and has been permitted to go route reccing this morning ahead of the super special stage in the afternoon at Kilifi, 50-km out of Mombasa.
Peter Horsey (Mitsubishi Evo9) who competed in Uganda previous two seasons will be flagged off first out of 49 drivers in the seventh round of the Kenya National Rally championship.
The 354-km rally will see drivers tackle six sections tomorrow with Ugandan rivals Lwakataka, Mangat and Ssebuguzi out to prove a point to each other following the controversial Jinja Rally. Ssebuguzi and Mangat question Lwakataka’s victory during a domestic in Jinja recently.
