Persons with disabilities (PWDs) have petitioned the Constitutional Court over the Parliamentary election provisions for PWDs. They complained that the provisions were discriminative, irregular and unconstitutional and called for their scrapping.

Persons with disabilities (PWDs) have petitioned the Constitutional Court over the Parliamentary election provisions for PWDs. They complained that the provisions were discriminative, irregular and unconstitutional and called for their scrapping.
The petitioners, who filed their case through the Legal Action for Persons with Disability Uganda, also seek to block the Electoral Commission from any electoral process for PWDs until the disposal of their constitutional petition.
The PWDs contend that while MPs representing other special groups like women and the youths are elected by secret ballot and adult suffrage, the MPs representing the PWDs are elected through the electoral college consisting of unelected representatives from the districts.
