Munoonye fights Mukoome in Mukono

THE former National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearer for Mukono district chairman has been nominated as an independent candidate.

Sooka Makanga Munoonye was first declared as NRM flag bearer but later removed when results were cancelled.

This came after Francis Lukooya Mukoome, the incumbent, complained of electoral malpractices.

Munoonye’s victory was cancelled and the NRM electoral body called for a re-run, in which he refused to take part, leaving Mukoome unopposed.

Godfrey Musisi (DP), a former Kampala City Council records officer, was also nominated.

Other contenders in the district were nominated as independents. These included Mukono Municipality mayor Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga, a member of NRM, who declined to participate in the primaries.

Over 20 councillors were nominated for both district and municipality. Among those, were Edward Mutebi (NRM), Goma division, Alfred Lulembe, (Independent), Nama division, John Bosco Isabirye (NRM), Nama division, James Kunobwa (NRM), Naggojje sub-county and Lukeman Sseggayi, (DP), Goma division.

Women district councilors included Teopista Galabuzi (DP) and Phoebe Lukundo (NRM) from Goma division, Sarah Namulondo (Independent), from Mukono central division, Fatumah Nabikofu (Independent)from Goma division, Grace Namayanja (NRM) from Nakisunga and Jane Nassali (NRM) from Ntenjeru sub-county.

Municipality councilors included Willington Makumbi (NRM), Abdallah Kayonde Ssalongo (NRM), Richard Mubiru (NRM), Twaibu Mwebaza (DP), Ronald Sserunkuuma (DP), Winnie Nakakembo (DP) and Saudah Kasirye (NRM) for various wards.
