TOO desperate to win a title this season, Pirates will have to design a much-improved winning strategy that will guarantee them title honours in the Makerere 10s rugby tournament that kicks off this morning.
Pirates, placed in Pool D that has been dubbed the group of death alongside Kenya’s Mean Machine, traditional rivals Kobs and Buffaloes, could meet either 2007 champions Mwamba or Mongers in the quarter-final stages.
The two-day tournament that will played at the Makerere ground, will have two teams qualify for the quarter-finals from each pool.
Pirates club captain Moses Soita stated: “It’s not only a tough pool but the knock-out stages will also be tough. We will have to focus on opponents’ weaknesses and apply our strengths.â€
However, Uganda Cup holders Kobs are also interested in the title they last won in 2006. “We are not underrating any team. We will field a full squad,â€Kobs coach Ronnie Lutakome stated.
The two day tournament is sponsored by Vision group and Nile breweries.
