THE national U-19 girls’ cricket team left yesterday for the International Cricket Council Eastern Africa tournament, promising to successfully defend the title they have won for the last two years.

THE national U-19 girls’ cricket team left yesterday for the International Cricket Council Eastern Africa tournament, promising to successfully defend the title they have won for the last two years.
Team captain Rebecca Mirembe of Gayaza High School said that the training they have had and the time they have spent together has moulded them into a good side.
National Council of Sports general secretary Jasper Aligawesa flagged off the team that will play against Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya in the regional event. Nine of the 15 girl-team have risen from the U-15 national team and have develpoed through the ranks. “Our aim is to build a good senior team for the future. There is no way we can do this other than through the age groups,†explained local cricket association chief executive officer Justine Ligyalingi at a press conference.
The team will be managed by Lucy Nakiboneka and has Raymond Otim as coach.
The team: K. Fahima, R. Mirembe, I. Katusime, L. Namaganda, F. Akello J. Kalungi, K. Apio, E. Anyipo, R. Mukashama, J. Mbabazi , J. Asiimwe and Prossy Tiko.
