25 killed
LIRA — A total of 25 people were killed in road accidents last year, the district Police commander, Godfrey Aropet, has said. Releasing the traffic report recently, Aropet said the figure indicated an increase in accidents compared to 2001. He attributed it to reckless and incompetent drivers.
No more drugs
TORORO — The Malaba police and Mella sub-county LCs recently launched a campaign against drug and alcohol abuse. Dozens were arrested for planting marijuana. Mella chairman Alfred Obore said smoking Marijuana, eating mairungi and alcoholism were rife among the youth.

Rains destroy
TORORO — Heavy rains recently ruined a number of buildings in the town and neighbouring villages. Several roofs were blown away and plantations destroyed. The storm also caused a blackout in Malaba town when electric poles currently under rehabilitation fell down.
