TEENAGE star Medi Kawuma leads the young turks seeking a slice of The New Vision International championship glory.
Kawuma,12, the boy’s title holder, intends to prolong his exciting run in the Easter event at Uganda Communications Institute, Nakawa.
The senior one Namilyango College student, will have to contend with the 2000 winner, 15-year-old Simon Rugenza.
Rugenza, a senior four Kitovu student, and Kawuma, will be fighting for a share of the sh3.5m prize fund. The 2001 winner Davis Agaba has also joined the fray.
Two other brilliant players—Cathy Kenyange, 13, the girls title holder and her elder sister Joan Kemirembe, are also raring to go.
Kenyange is fresh from the Africa junior championship held in January.
Senior players are involved in a battle for the top award with Humphrey Andolo and Isaac Munanira the players to watch.
Andolo made history by becoming the first Kenyan player to win the event. The former Olympian is due in Kampala tomorrow.
Andolo will compete in the open category, whose winner will earn sh0.975m. There will also be action in the challengers, the womens, the boys and girls U-15 events.
