A leading American procurement services company, Amproc Inc., has clinched a major deal under which it is to take over all SWIPCO services in Uganda, within the next few months.
Company sources said the move follows a series of negotiations the SWIPCO boss in Uganda, Robert Mwesigwa (right), held with Amproc Inc. at its headquarters in Washington D.C. The talks started last year.
Sources close to Amproc, said the company, offers procurement auditing, capacity building and monitoring services.
Amproc Inc. has branches in Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana and plans to widen its operations in Africa.
“But despite the change in ownership, there will not be any loss of jobs. All the staff-including the MD- Mr. Mwesigwa, will be retained,” said the source.
Sometime back President Yoweri Museveni praised SWIPCO for the role it had played in curbing malpractices in state procurement deals. Museveni criticised those who had opposed SWIPCO when it started work in Uganda.
Mwesigwa yesterday said the deal with Amproc was on but promised to divulge details after the two parties have finalised everything.
“In future, all operations and SWIPCO's interests in Uganda will be taken over by Amproc Inc,” Mwesigwa said.
SWIPCO has been offering procurement and consultancy services in Uganda since 1996. Ends
