SC Villa v Express
Saturday

EXPRESS must on Saturday beat SC Villa for the first time in the league in three years if they are to break the champions’ 100% league record.
The Red Eagles defeated the Jogoos 2-1 with goals from Edward Kalungi and George Ssemogerere during the 2000 Nile Special Super League (NSSL).
Times have changed since and neither Kalungi nor Ssemogerere wears the red shirt.
More significantly, Hassan Mubiru who was part of Villa’s losing team then is now Express skipper.
Key to breaking Villa’s run will be Mubiru, the Eagles’ top scorer in the league. But Mubiru, despite finishing top scorer in successive seasons, has never scored against his former side in the league.
His three goals against Villa have come in the Kakungulu Cup.
Villa have had the better of their bitter rivals in recent meetings and are breathing fire after 12 rounds of the 2002-2003 championship.
Express too have displayed great character and are yet to lose a match. The reason they trail their opponents by four points is because of draws to URA and Police.
The last time Villa played Express was in February in the CECAFA semi-final where the Jogoos’ won 2-1.
Villa also beat Express 1-0 and 2-1 in the league and Kakungulu Cup respectively last year.
