JINJA municipality mayor David Wakudumira has clarified on the state of the Kenyan company that intends to build a multi-million oil refinery in Jinja.
“We have okayed BIDCO oil company and even sacrificed most of our principles for the sake of that investment which we think will boost our town,” Wakudumira said.
His remarks were a reaction to allegations attributed to LC5 chairman Fred Gume in the press recently that the municipality had for bureaucratic reasons failed to allocate land to the investor.
“If the municipality has failed to give BIDCO land, then let them come, we shall give them land in Wanyange,” Gume was quoted as saying.
But Wakudumira said the valuing exercise for the compensation of residents on the 20 hectares of land by Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) had already started in Masese division.
“If we had not accepted to give land to the investor, then how would UIA start on such an expensive exercise of compensating residents,” he asked. Ends
