INSPIRED by victory in the UMC rally, Moses Lumala has entered the Mountain Gorilla Rwanda rally due next weekend.

INSPIRED by victory in the UMC rally, Moses Lumala has entered the Mountain Gorilla Rwanda rally due next weekend.

Lumala, a strong contender in Rwanda’s round of the Africa Rally Championship which has attracted 33 crews from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Belgium and Rwanda departs on Wednesday in time for route reccing Thursday.

“I want to go and practice for the Pearl rally. It is long since I competed in Rwanda, I will first see the route before I gauge my chances,” said Lumala, who last drove in Rwanda in 1999.

The Caltex Rally Team driver, who has closed in on the national title, will be in Kigali with compatriots Wycliff Bukenya (Toyota Celica ST 185), Issa Numba (Mazda), Omar Mayanja (Mitsubishi Gallant) Riyaz Kurji (Mitsubishi Evo7), Bob Roberts (Toyota Celica ST185) and Dolly Mubarak (Nissan Pulsar).

Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC) president Dismus Kayibanda, who was in Kampala last week during the UMC rally, told The New Vision that the event has got support from Rwandan president Paul Kagame and leading companies in the central African country.

After the Rwanda rally drivers will move base to Kampala for the TOTAL Pearl of Africa Uganda rally due September 5-7.
