THE deputy Katikkiro and Mengo minister for land and property, Godfrey Kaaya Kavuma, has warned local council leaders who endorse the selling of the kingdom’s land
THE deputy Katikkiro and Mengo minister for land and property, Godfrey Kaaya Kavuma, has warned local council leaders who endorse the selling of the kingdom’s land.
Kavuma said local officials illegally ask for money traditionally known as ‘Kanzu’ from those buying the land.
“Whoever buys the kingdom’s land through these local leaders, will have bought ‘air’. They have got no right to sell the kingdom’s land,†said Kavuma.
He advised those willing to lease land to apply through the Buganda Land Board.
Kavuma was responding to a report recently given to him by Rajab Ssabaganzi Lwebuga, the Nanfumbambi-Ntenjeru, Kojja sub-county chairman in Kyaggwe.
Lwebuga’s report indicated that LCI leaders in his sub-county were increasingly selling the Kabaka’s land.
The report said the LC officials were secretly selling part of the sub-county’s land due to their greed for money.
It further showed that parish chiefs (Abatongole) and Kabaka’s men who tried to complain about selling of the land, were tortured and imprisoned by the LCs, in an attempt to silence them.
