Black Finally Makes It To Idols Top

She believes she has what it takes to be the next idol. She is 18 years old and a Grade 12 pupil at Fezeka High School in Lotus River, Cape Town. South African Poseletso Sejosingoe is the only black African girl to have so far been voted to the Top 10 contestants.
Talk of racism had propped up after Noluthando Meje, a 16 year-old black South African top three contestant in Group 1 of the four groups failed to make it to the Top 10 contestants. The only two white contestants in Group 1 out of the eight, both made it to the Top 10.
Together with 17-year-old Nazneen Leeman from Belgravia also in Cape Town, the pair is the third lot to go through to Idols Top 10.
They beat six other contestants in Group 3 to make it. The pair who took up the fifth and sixth positions in the coveted Top 10, was announced on Monday night after a live Idols show on Sunday night.
This Sunday, you could join other African viewers to spot your choice and thereafter on Monday, join the voters to determine which two, of the eight contestants in Group Four join the Top 10 contestants to make eight.
Viewers can vote via telephone, sms (the telephone lines are provided on the screen during the show) and the Internet (www.mnet.co.za).
Under the watchful eye of the Idols judges, each of the eight contestants in Group Three gave a rendition of their chosen song in an attempt to win the hearts of the South African public. Although the judges gave comments, they had no influence on who would go through to the next round. The viewers had to decide the fate of these young stars; they had approximately 24 hours to vote for the contestant they thought deserved to go through to the Top 10.
Nazneen and Poseletso garnered the most votes from the viewing public in Group Three. Nazneen, who was disqualified last year because she was too young, came back this year to prove that she is Idols material.
This week the Idols judges finally got it right in their predictions as of the four predicted at least one made it to the Top 10. Randall Abrahams scored full marks with his prediction for Nazneen and Poseletso.
For the judges, Dave Thompson, gave thumbs up to Nazneen and Lesedi, while Gareth Cliff thought Nazneen and Andy would go through to the next round. Mara Louw felt that Poseletso, Zama and Monde deserved Top 10 Idols status.
Both Nazneen and Poseletso, who were discovered during one of Idols’ talent scouting sessions in Cape Town during the regional auditions, celebrated their good fortune, while the six other contestants in Group Three were consoled by Idols presenters Colin Moss and Letoya Makhene.
But all is not lost for the six contestants who did not make it through, as they all stand a chance to make it to the Wild Card Show.
After the last group in the Top 32 has performed, the judges will choose eight contestants who did not make it through to the Top 10 phase by public vote, to join Botswana's Bonolo Thekiso the first contestant to make it to the Wild Card group.
The Idols’ judges still have some power in the competition, until they reveal their Wild Cards on Monday August 11, viewers can only speculate on the final composition of Idols Top 10 for 2003.
Even after a contestant makes it to the Wild Cards selection, they will have to sing it out for a second time on Sunday, August 17, after which the four judges Dave, Randall, Mara and Gareth will choose the two hopefuls who will fill the final two spots in the Top 10.
