MULAGO Hospital wants the cholera camp removed to create space for the construction of a playground to generate income for the cash-strapped national referral hospital.

The director, Dr. Lawrence Kaggwa, while conducting the new board of directors around the hospital on Friday, said the camp run by Kampala City Council (KCC) had delayed its plans to put up the facility.

“You should really prevail on KCC to remove this camp to gives us space to develop our plans. If they provided clean water around the city, we wouldn’t have cholera,” he said.

The interim board, the first to be appointed by health minister Brig. Jim Muhwezi in March, is to prepare the hospital for autonomy within a period of one year.

Members included businessman, Gordon Wavamunno, former health Permanent Secretary, Nathan Obore, the former Mulago head nurse, Ida Batwala, Dr. Yusuf Mpairwe and Prof. Ruth Mukama.
