KAMPALA City Council (KCC) will next month embark on the reticulation of the Nakivubo Channel mouth, the project coordinator, David Kiggundu, said yesterday.

The reticulation, ordered by the former environment state minister, Kezimbira Miyingo, will involve splitting the channel into three fingers so that the water entering the wetland is split into three instead of one stream.

Miyingo said re-designing the mouth would save Lake Victoria from increased pollution.
Kampala mayor John Ssebaana Kizito, his executive and the project officials yesterday toured the channel being rehabilitated with a sh17b grant from the World Bank.

China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation is rehabilitating and widening the channel.

Kiggundu said the designs of the mouth were being carried out ahead of the works in September.

He said earth drums would be constructed at the mouth to enable the water to spreads into the nearby Nakivubo wetland where various crops have been planted.
