By Ebenezer Bifubyeka FIVE livestock markets in Mbarara are still closed though the contagious bovine pluralrhemonia (CBPP) and foot and mouth diseases are decreasing in Bukanga and Nyabushozi counties.
Mbarara district veterinary officer Dr. John Barigye on Tuesday said Kamwema, Karengo, Bugango, Ntenga and Nakivale markets would stay closed until the diseases are eradicated.
Barigye said they were restricting movement of cattle and livestock products due to the persistent CBPP locally called Kihaha.
He said over 5,500 cattle had been vaccinated against CBPP in Bukanga.
He said the spread of foot and mouth disease in Nyabushozi had stopped because pastoralists do not move due to the heavy rains in the area. Ends
