THE son of the late Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin(right), yesterday returned home via Nairobi aboard a Kenya Airways flight at 7:00pm, reports Jimmy Adriko.

Taban Amin checked in via the VIP lounge where he was received by two plain-clothes security officials.
He was accompanied by four men and a woman.

It was not clear where he was taken.

Taban, dressed in a long sleeved Congolese outfit, wore dark glasses. He travelled in economy class.

The Attorney General and MP for Koboko, Francis Ayume, said he was expecting him.

Ayume said Taban was the only family member who was not directly in touch with the Government.

“I have been in close touch with other family members.

“He was the only family person who was not in touch with the Government.

“There were allegations that Taban was in eastern Congo fighting the Government,” Ayume said.

It was recently alleged that Taban was mobilising the Peoples Redemption Army (PRA) in eastern Congo.

“There were allegations that he had taken over Uganda’s embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I am happy he is home,” said Ayume.

“I think his return is good for the country,” he said.

Ayume said similar allegations were labelled against Major Isaac Lumago when he (Ayume) contacted him at the time.

“I even showed security officials the letter I sent to Lumago.

At that time Lumago feared to return because he was linked to the West Nile Bank front rebels,” Ayume said.

Idi Amin died on August 16 in Saudi Arabia where he had been in exile since he was deposed in 1979.

Taban’s return is further testimony to the warming ties between Kinshasa and Kampala.

The New Vision yesterday reported that Taban had been evicted from Uganda’s embassy in Kinshasa.

Security officials had said Taban had fled to Nairobi.

“Taban’s issue had become embarrassing as far as relations between Uganda and the DRC were concerned,” a security official told The New Vision.

Uganda has named an envoy to the DRC.
