THE European Union ambassador, Sigurd Illing, has commended Busia district for “an excellent work done†on the European Development Fund (EDF) micro projects in the district.
Illing was recently commissioning the EU Micro Project Programmes in the district for this financial year.
The projects include a maternity ward, an outpatient clinic and two staff quarters at Buteba, in Butba sub-county.
The EDF also constructed two classroom blocks and teachers’ quarters at Butangasi in Masaba sub-county. It built Nangulu Primary School in Busitama sub-county and two protected spring wells at Munaka in Masaba and at Angolole in Buteba.
The projects cost the EU over sh160m.
Illing said Busia ranked at the top of the eight districts in which the programme runs.
He thanked the district council for having awarding tenders to contractors who did satisfactory work.
Illing appealed to residents to put the facilities to proper use. He said they had to pay taxes if they were to achieve more services.
The district chairman, Stephen Wanyana, said in the last financial year, 51 EU-sponsored micro projects were commissioned in the district.
