TWO members of the recently dissolved Makerere University vice chancellor search committee have been re-elected on the University Senate, reports Fortunate Ahimbisbwe.
Social Sciences Faculty dean Dr. Edward Kirumira and Prof. Ntozi of the Statistics Department were voted to the committee.
The university spokesperson, Hellen Kaweesa, confirmed the development but declined to comment further.
The Inspector General of Government recently intervened following allegations that the out-going Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Ssebuwufu (right) and his deputy, Prof. Epelu Opio, had interfered with the search for Ssebuwufu’s replacement.
candidates not short-listed had alleged that out-going Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Ssebuwufu and his deputy, Prof. Epelu Opio, had personal stakes in the process. They also accused the committee headed by Dr Wana Etyem of bending regulations and guidelines.
The IGG however down played these allegations. It was established that the search committee deviated from Council guidelines when it ranked a PhD higher than a master’s degree for candidates applying to be vice chancellor.
