KABALE
A total of 84 people in the district were recruited into the UPDF. The recruitment team chief, Lt. Col. Francis Takiirwa, said over 200 youth from Kabale and Kanungu districts turned up to join the army but only 84 were successful. He said some were rejected because they had diseases, while others had wives who would deter their training. Takiirwa said it was unfortunate that only two women were part of the 84. He said the army wanted women to compete with men in the exercise.

Parents want to top-up for UPE
- Parents in Mutara sub-county have called upon President Yoweri Museveni to let them contribute towards the education of their children. They said because the President directed head teachers to stop charging any money under the Universal Primary Education, some parents had abandoned their responsibilities. Alfred Rwemereza, the former chairman of Bukongoro Primary School, said parents who did not want to pay any money were not interested in educating their children.
